IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

Lawmakers continue their work to overhaul the state's mental health system.

Saturday, several answered questions about reform efforts in Des Moines.

The League of Women Voters of Cedar Rapids held a public forum Saturday morning to address some of the complex issues with the current legislation.

Much of the conversation focused on developing a more stable system.

Providers say the need for mental health services continues to increase while funding drops off.

"Non-profit providers are struggling to be able to make end's meet and having to reach out more to the community through fundraising and other efforts in order to have the bottom line work," said Bill Gardam, CEO and president of Horizons, a mental health service provider

Friday, the Iowa House Appropriations Committee moved a funding plan forward to help redesign the current system.
