JESUP (KWWL) -

The Buchanan County Attorney says a 45-year-old doctor followed his ex-girlfriend to the home of her new boyfriend in Jesup before killing her and committing suicide.

County Attorney Shawn Harden said Friday that radiologist Timothy Roses, of Plano, Texas, had been in a relationship with 22-year-old Lindsay Nichols since April of 2011. He told Nichols that he was going to leave his wife and get a divorce to be with her. The relationship ended in February when Nichols decided that Roses wasn't going to leave his wife. Roses continued contacting Nichols even after she had ended the relationship.

They met while she was studying radiography at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, where Roses worked.

Harden says Roses followed Nichols on Wednesday evening to the home of her new boyfriend in Jesup. Roses had rented a truck from Hertz in Waterloo early in the week. Harden says Roses jumped out with a gun and tried to get Nichols to get in his truck. When she struggled he pulled out a gun and shot her. He then turned the gun on himself.

Nichols new boyfriend was on the phone with a 911 operator when the first shot was fired. By the time he got outside Roses had also shot himself.
