Heartland Habitat to dedicate home number 105

Number 105 is just about ready for its new family.

Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity will dedicate its 105th new home on March 28 at 1421 4th Street in Cedar Falls.

This latest Habitat new home dedication will carry with it some special meaning, in that the non-profit organization had been trying to acquire this property for the past five years. For several years, the home on the property was dilapidated and an eye sore for the whole neighborhood.

One neighbor was so happy to learn Habitat wanted to build a new home there, he donated $ 2,000 to help Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity buy the lot.

A single Mom and her two sons will move into the new, 1,050 square foot home. The family has completed the 300 hours of ‘sweat equity' required by Habitat for home ownership.

Habitat will sell the home to the family at an affordable price. Interestingly, the family was able to purchase the home with a non-profit loan and their mortgage payments will be used to build additional Habitat homes.

Founded in 1990 as an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit organization whose goal is to eliminate poverty, improve neighborhoods and build stronger families.
