Waterloo Warriors notch decisive win in national tournament

The Waterloo Warriors notched a decisive 12-1 win Wednesday in their first game of the USA Hockey National High School Tournament being held in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The Warriors peppered two Washington goalies with a combined 54 shots on goal, while Washington could only muster 14 shots on goal.

Lee Jensen had three goals, including one shorthanded, and one assist to lead the Warriors scoring.

Austin Jackson and Timothy Brown each added two goals and an assist.  One of Jackson's goals also came while the Warriors were shorthanded, while one of Brown's was on a power play.

Jacob Sessler added a goal and two assists, Jacob Lichty had a goal and an assist, David Becker notched a power play goal and an assist and Beau Cook and Jonathan Skarlis each had a goal for the Warriors.

Krisjian Toivola scored Washington's only goal on a power play in the second period.

The Warriors Chance Kremer allowed one goal on 13 shots in 34 minutes.  Connor Weber stood in goal for the final 17 minutes of the game and faced one shot.  Kremer was credited with the win.

Brian MacLean allowed four Warrior goals in 20:43 of playing time, while Jake Bowen allowed the final eight Warrior goals in 30:17 of the game.

The Warriors will face the Pinnacle Pioneers from Arizona Thursday at 1:30 p.m. central time in Salt Lake City.
