Area track athletes perform well at Dickinson Indoor


Some of the top boys in the state competed in the Dickinson Relays at the UNI-Dome Monday.

In the boys 60 meter hurdles, Brandon Ophoff of Linn-Mar won his heat in a time of 8.27 seconds. Ophoff also won the final.

Alabama recruit James Harrington of Cedar Falls looked strong in his first competition of the season winning the 60 meter dash in a time of 6.97 seconds. He won the 200 meters dash in 22.83 seconds.

In the long jump, Dquayvious Martin of Waterloo West has the state's best leap this year of 23 feet 4.5 inches. Martin jumped 22 feet 6.25 inches, but he was edged out for first place by Jerry Westerfield of Davenport North who went just one-quarter of an inch further. West High's Jason Miller was third.

Decorah also had a good day. Kyle Kregel was a strong anchor on the 4x800 relay team. He rallied the Vikings from fifth to second place.
