UNI Panthers gain great experience from first NIT

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

The Northern Iowa Panthers came within a whisker of advancing to the quarterfinal round of the National Invitation Tournament.

The Panthers played two games in Philadelphia. They beat St. Joe's Wednesday before losing to Drexel 65-63 Sunday.

The defeat ends the Panthers' season at 20-14.  Panther head coach Ben Jacobson said he's pleased with the way his team performed this past week.

The Panthers were facing an uphill battle against a Drexel team that was unbeaten at home. Northern Iowa dug itself a big hole in the first half. They trailed by as many as 18 in the first half. UNI battled back and actually had a chance to win in the final seconds.

Coach Jacobson said the experience in the NIT was a very positive one for his program.
