Cedar Rapids firefighters quickly contain house fire Monday night

Cedar Rapids firefighters say they quickly contained a house fire Monday night at 1025 G Avenue, N.W. In doing so, firefighters isolated the damage area and contained damage to one east side exterior wall and an area about 6 feet by 6 feet area in the kitchen of the story and a half structure.

Homeowner, Daniel Franck, told the Cedar Rapids Fire Department he spotted the fire when he returned home around 5:30 pm Monday. Franck got his two dogs out safely and used his cell phone to call 911.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, smoke and flames were coming from the east side of house, near the back. Fire crews entered through the front door, where they ran into moderate smoke. They located flames in the kitchen area, above the microwave oven, Firefighters believe that's the area where the fire originated. The cause remains under investigation and there were no injuries.
