CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

A Cedar Falls native has been picked to be Cedar Rapids Jefferson's new football coach.

Brian Webb, who spent the last two years as the head coach at Kuemper Catholic in Carroll, now awaits school board approval to make his hire official.

Webb was born in Waterloo and raised in Cedar Falls.  He played for UNI from 1998-1999 and was a volunteer coach at Cedar Falls High School in 1998.

In 2000, Webb became an assistant at Dinke-New Hartford, where he stayed until 2003 before becoming the running backs and punters coach at St. Cloud State University.

In 2005, Webb came back to Iowa and was an assistant coach at Spencer High School.  In 2008, Webb went to West Des Moines Valley where he was an assistant for two seasons.

In 2010, Webb became the head coach at Kuemper Catholic.  He compiled an 18-4 record over two seasons and led them to a Class 2A District 2 championship and a 10-2 record in 2011.  He was named District Coach of the Year in 2011.

Webb replaces Jim Womochil who stepped down earlier this year.

The community is invited to meet Webb at a meeting being held Thursday, March 22nd at 7:00 p.m. in the Jefferson High School lunch room.
