Cedar Rapids celebrates with 37th SaPaDaPaSo Parade

Thousands came to downtown Cedar Rapids to celebrate St. Patrick's Day Saturday

The SaPaDaPaSo parade has come a long way since the first one in 1975 which lasted only four minutes.

What a difference 37 years and 80 degrees makes.

Organizers say they were full with 100 entrees and had to turn away more than 50 additional requests.

Many families made their way downtown to take advantage of the warm weather and celebrate the festivities.

"I really think it's neat.  It's good to see all these people come downtown, especially after the flood," said Kirsten Parenteau of Cedar Rapids.

The event is put on by a group of volunteers with the Saint Patrick's Day Parade Society

The group has sponsored every parade since 1977.
