WATERLOO (KWWL) -

The Peoples Community Health Clinic is working to decrease the number of people that die each year from colon cancer through early diagnosis.

According to the National Cancer Institute, 50,000 Americans die each year from colon cancer.

The health clinic is providing free cancer screening kits. Those interested can pick them up at the clinic, 905 Franklin Street in Waterloo, on March 21-22, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

All kits will need to be returned to Peoples Health Clinic no later than April 4.

Those that qualify are people age 50-65 who may not have insurance or may be inadequately insured.

All of this is in an effort to bring attention to this issue during March which is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month.

For more information, call Nancy McHone, Covenant Cancer Treatment Center at 319-272-2841 or Becky Dumler, Allen Hospital at 319-235-3823.
