Seat belt use is up in Iowa


Seat belt use is up in Iowa, according to traffic safety officials.

A new study shows seat belt use has risen to 93 percent from about 18 percent in 1985, the year before the state seat belt law took effect. One traffic safety officials says 2011's average is about 9 percent higher than one survey's national average.

In Iowa, failing to buckle up is a primary violation for which an officer can pull over a vehicle.
