One in jail, two officers injured after Coralville traffic stop


A Cedar Rapids man is behind bars after police found marijuana and a loaded gun in a car.

Police say they stopped a car before 2:00 a.m. Saturday in the 500 block of 1st Avenue in Coralville.

After searching the car, police found 19 individual bags of marijuana and a loaded handgun.

The passenger, 31-year-old Charlie Pitchford of Cedar Rapids attempted to flee, but police caught him and a fight ensued.

Police say during the fight a taser was used to subdue and arrest Pitchford. Two officers were injured during the fight.

Pitchford is charged with possession of a firearm, possession of marijuana with the intent to deliver. He is in the Johnson County Jail.

Police say 27-year-old Caniya Barron, 29-year-old Crystal Turner and two other occupants of the car were both charged with interference with official acts.
