Students pick up hammers for alternative spring break

WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Volunteers from an Ohio college are building a new house for a deserving Waterloo family.

These students are part of Habitat for Humanity's National Alternative Break program.

So instead of having a traditional break these students have come to Iowa for a fulfilling experience.

"It's fulfilling.  I choose to go on a service trip over my spring break because it's something neat to do as opposed to going off and doing something by myself.  It's nice to give back to others," volunteer Nathan Howell said.

For 23 years, more than 194,000 students have chosen to spend their spring breaks helping families through Habitat for Humanity.
