Manning era apparently ending in Indianapolis

The Peyton Manning era in Indianapolis is coming to an end.

A person with knowledge of the decision tells The Associated Press that the Colts are parting ways with the four-time NFL MVP rather than pay him a $28 million bonus he was due to collect. Barring a last minute change of heart, the Colts will make it official at a news conference later today.

Manning missed the entire 2011 season due to a series of neck surgeries. He'll be an unrestricted free agent after spending his entire pro career in Indianapolis.

The Colts hold the No. 1 pick in next month's draft and are expected to use it on Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck.
