CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Slick roads due to a quick burst of snow on Sunday resulted in 49 crashes in Cedar Rapids between 3:00 p.m. Sunday and 8:00 a.m. Monday.  Four of those involved police cars, including the most serious crash which resulted in a 24-year old woman being ejected from her car.

At around 5:20 p.m. Sunday, Sgt. Michelle Smothers, a nine-year veteran of the department, was doing traffic control on I-380 south at 7th Street NE for officers investigating an accident, when Danielle Brazant, 24, lost control and slid into Smothers' squad car.  Brazant was ejected from her car on impact.  She was taken to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.  Her condition is unknown.  Sgt. Smothers was taken to St. Luke's Hospital and was treated and released.

The Cedar Rapids Police Department says drivers should slow down and merge when they see emergency lights ahead.
