Hartman Reserve hosts 26th annual Maple Syrup Festival

With a touch of spring in the air, maple trees have produced sap to make syrup for Hartman Reserve Nature Center's 26th annual Maple Syrup Festival. Every spring, local trees are tapped and then that sap is used to make the syrup for the following year.

People lined up for pancakes and sausage at the annual fundraiser. Local sponsors provided food and drinks, and there was a raffle to win prizes, like a bike or a kayak. Last year more than 2,100 people were fed; organizers anticipate this year will serve as many, if not more.

Laura Stammler, Hartman Reserve's development coordinator, said "I think it's really just become a great family tradition. I think that a lot of kids have grown up in the Cedar Valley and surrounding communities have come here as children and now that they're adults they bring their kids back and it's just really neat to see that tradition going on."
