Students come out to support President Allen

President Ben Allen and the rest of the administration at the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) are gaining some support on campus and most recently from the student body.

Students have taken to Facebook and created their own page titled, "Vote of Confidence for President Ben Allen." The page was created on Thursday and already has around 450 likes.

Students also used the page to organize a show of support for the president at the UNI faculty meeting late Friday afternoon. Students stood silently holding signs in support of President Allen as faculty members walked into the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center.

Students say it's unfair to blame Allen when the cuts first came from the Iowa State Legislature.

"As much as I am upset that Price Lab is closing I'm also realistic in the fact that I realize that the people we need to be angry at are not necessarily within our own house, but the lawmakers in Iowa who have been cutting our budget," said Allen supporter and UNI Sophomore, Scott Bredman.

Supporters of Allen also say some faculty have been discussing the cuts in their classes without all the facts. They say the professors should avoid these discussions and focus on teaching their students.
