Evansdale police chief stepping down

Evansdale Chief of police, Randy Weber, is stepping down from his position to become a Senior Patrolman for the department.

Evansdale Mayor Chad Deutsch confirmed on Friday that Weber was making the move.

Deutsch says that the decision was mutual between him and Weber and had nothing to do with Weber's performance as an officer.  According to Deutsch, Weber loves being a police officer but was not comfortable with the administrative tasks that came with being the chief.

Weber says he was approached by Deutsch who had some concerns about his administrative skills.

Weber will formally step down at Evansdale's City Council meeting on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.  Deutsch will then name an interim chief to take over while a search is done for Weber's replacement.

Weber has been with the Evansdale Police Department for 22 years.  He has been Chief of Police for the last four-and-a-half.
