Iowa City man accused of threatening public defenders

An Iowa City man was arrested and is accused of threatening five attorneys in the public defender's office.

Iowa City police say that Randy Alan Chipman, 46, called the public defender's office on Saturday and left threatening voicemails for five of the attorneys.

According to police, one attorney had five voicemails.

Police say some of the statements Chipman made include, "I'm only gonna do 10 years for what I'm going to do", "You got a whole family out there", "You know I will do the rest of my life in prison", "It's Randy, you know who this is" and "I'm going to take a lot more than just you out".

Police say the victims and other office staff are alarmed and have even made arrangements to install a new security door.

All five victims have requested protection orders.

Chipman is charged with one count of first degree harassment and four counts of third degree harassment.
