CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

There are two meetings planned Monday for education majors in light of the recent plan announced to close Malcolm Price Lab School at the University of Northern Iowa.

UNI president Ben Allen sent this email to education students Thursday:

"Dean Dwight Watson and I invite you to join us for a meeting on Monday, February 27, 2012 at the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center from 11:00 - 11:45 a.m. or 7:00 - 7:45 p.m. We will provide information regarding UNI's Teacher Education program in the context of the Malcolm Price Laboratory School announcement. We look forward to seeing you next week."

The University of Northern Iowa says it will continue to lead the nation in teacher education by partnering with education experts, leading universities and area school districts.

Allen recommended closing the school by July 1, as part of budget cuts and closures announced at UNI this week.

The Iowa Board of Regents and the Iowa Legislature still have to approve the recommendation to close Price Lab.
