Mom charged after police say toddler was drunk

An eastern Iowa Mom faces child endangerment charges after Iowa City Police discovered that the woman's 22-month-old child was legally drunk.

26-year old Natasha Kriener of Iowa City faces the charges after being arrested last week in the bizarre case. She faces charges of child endangerment resulting in bodily injury. Iowa City Police records indicate the child's father took the toddler to a hospital where doctors found the child with a blood alcohol content level of .09 percent, higher than the state's legal limit for adults of.08.

Natasha Kriener is listed as the child's primary caregiver, and the toddler was in her care when the incident allegedly took place. Iowa City Police have not said exactly what happened, or if the child is a boy or girl.

The state's online court system indicates Kriener will be appointed a public defender. She will make a preliminary court appearance Feb. 28, in Johnson County District Court. At last report, Kriener was being held in the Johnson County Jail in lieu of $ 20,000 bail.
