UNI Tennis goes 2-0 on Sunday

The University of Northern Iowa Women's Tennis team went 2-0 on Sunday, scoring wins over Chicago State 5-2, and the University of Missouri-Kansas City 4-3.

In doubles action against the CSU Cougars, Freshman Nina Pfahler and Senior Jessica Kunzelman dropped their No. 1 match by a score of 8-6 to Cougar twin Seniors Juan Rosalia and Juan Rosalina Tejoprayitno. But the Panthers bounced back in the No. 2 and 3 matches as the pairs of Cassandra Dix/Krissy Lankelma and Chelsea Moore/Stefannia Sampaio scored 8-1 and 8-0 wins over CSU to take the advantage in doubles play.

In singles action, Pfahler won the No. 1 singles match over Juan Rosalina Tejoprayitno 6-1, 6-2, while Dix, Lankelma, and Sampaio also earned wins in singles play to give UNI the 5-2 victory over the Cougars.

Later in the day, against UMKC, the matchup of Pfahler/Kunzelman again dropped the No. 1 match in doubles play to Kangaroo Juniors Eva Dalvai and Laura Bouet 9-7, before Dix/Lankelma and Moore/Sampaio again scored doubles victories by finals of 8-2 and 9-7, respectively.

The doubles win proved to be crucial for the Panthers, as the Panthers and Kangaroos went blow-for-blow in singles play, as Pfahler, Dix, and Sampaio dropped the No. 1, 2, and 6 matches respectively, while Kunzelman, Moore, and Lankelma earned singles wins to give UNI the advantage, by a final score of 4-3.

    The Missouri Valley Conference exercised an option to keep the men's basketball tournament in Saint Louis through at least 2020. The previous agreement ended in 2018 with a two year to remain at the Scottrade Center. The tournament, known as Arch Madness, will conduct it's 30th straight tournament in Saint Louis in 2020.
