CORALVILLE (KWWL) -

There was free admission Saturday at the Iowa Children's Museum in Coralville.

It's part of an effort to encourage young people to become engineers.

Rockwell Collins sponsored its 9th annual engineering event as part of International Engineers Week.

Some of the company's engineers volunteered and went through hands-on science activities with kids.

"We want to show these kids that, you know, engineering can be fun, you know you can work in a team and have a good time and invent things and create things and have hands-on experiences. That's what it's all about," said senior community relations specialist Melanie Richert.

Some of the activities are intended to teach kids about structures and shapes by creating paper planes, paper rockets and other projects and hopefully inspire them to become engineers.
