The Northern Iowa Panthers shot 55 percent from the field and 9 of 17 from three point land, but they couldn't overcome 19 turnovers as they fall 77-68 to Virginia Commonwealth. UNI guard Deon Mitchell led all scorers with 18 points, Anthony James added 10 including a halftime buzzer beater to give the Panthers a 44-42 lead.
Darius Theus scored his only three field goals of the game in the final 4:45 Friday night, accounting for all Virginia Commonwealth's points in a 7-2 run, and the Rams held on to beat Northern Iowa 77-68.
Bradford Burgess scored 17 and Rob Brandenberg 13 for the Rams (23-6) while the Panthers fall to 17-11 with the loss.
