SOUTH LANCASTER TOWNSHIP, Wis. (KWWL) -

The pilot of a twin engine plane suffered minor injures when he tried to land his plane on a highway.

Officials say Dennis Dangberg, 68, of Windside, Nebraska was low on fuel on his flight back from Freeport, Illinois when he tried to land. The 1970 Beechcraft Baron was about 2 miles from the Lancaster, Wisconsin airport when the plane ran out of fuel. Dangberg tried to land on Highway 61 just south of Aupperle Road, but instead landed in the ditch line just west of the road.

The plane stayed upright and traveled several feet in the ditch before stopping. Dangberg was treated for a scrape on his face.

The Grant County Sheriff's office was helped by the Lancaster Fire Department, Lancaster Rescue Squad, and Bennett's Towing. The investigation will be handled by the Federal Aviation Administration.
