UI Museum of Art to restore Pollock painting

The University of Iowa Museum of Art intends to have its Jackson Pollock masterpiece restored.

"Mural" is almost 70 years old and is showing its age. The painting has been valued at nearly $150 million.

The museum director is talking to several agencies about securing money for the conservation work. It could cost up to $300,000.

The painting was a source of controversy during the 2011 Legislative Session when a bill was introduced trying to force the University of Iowa to sell the painting.  The bill did not go anywhere.

The painting was donated to the University of Iowa in 1951 by art dealer Peggy Guggenheim.
