Officer uses taser on high school Clinton student

A high school fight in Clinton ended Thursday when police used a taser on a student.

Clinton Schools Superintendent Deb Olson said the fight started in the school cafeteria.

An administrator and a school officer tried to break it up, but that's when a student punched the officer.

The officer warned the student that a taser would be used if he continued. The superintendent said the student didn't stop and the officer tased him.

An ambulance was called in to check the boy out.

Olson defended his decision to the press Thursday.

"First and foremost, he is a police officer, and he is there to keep everybody safe. In his judgment, of which, he had gone through this entire episode was that was the only way that this was going to be over with," Olson said.

The police department and the school district are investigating.
