Nashua-Plainfield captures 1A State Duals

After taking out Don Bosco in the semis, Nashua-Plainfield would go after their first duals title in 8 years. Taking on Underwood, they go off to a great start as Christian Miller pinned David Athey in the first period at 152. Two matches later, teammate Zach Holthaus matched the feat taking out Matt Myers at 170. And the Huskies were tough all night. At 106, Blake Dietz gets a takedown and guts out a tough 9-6 decision over Taylor Kurtis.

Nashua-Plainfield grabs the 1A duals title winning tonight 47 to 16.

Christian Miller said, "I never though I'd be part of this, at all, ever, I mean, this is my second year with the guys, and I just love it. I mean, I'm blessed every moment I've had with them, but it's not over yet. We've got 3 more days left, and we've got to win one more state title."

In Class 2A, second seeded West Delaware, down 9-0 went on a tear against top seed Davenport Assumption. At 195, the Hawks Jason Goebel is tough putting Bradley Grothus to the mat. He wins 7-2, the third straight, tying the meet at 9. Adam Reth dominated Zach Adrian at 220. West Delaware rattled off 7 straight wins, but it came down to the final match. A mad scramble would give Assumption's Tiante Parks a 3 point victory over Brent Reilly.

West Delaware just misses the title dropping the dual 32-30.

Jeff Voss West Delaware Head Coach said, "I'm pretty proud of their effort tonight. I think they all did what they could, and unfortunately we just came up on the short end, but we had a lot of kids down here. We brought 32 kids, they all got a taste of it, and I think they'll all be hungry to come back next year."

Next up, the Hawks need to regroup to go after a traditional state title starting Thursday afternoon.
