Waterloo and Iowa City to host meetings on proposed MidAmerican increase


The Iowa Utilities Board announced Waterloo and Iowa City will host public comment meetings on MidAmerican Energy Company's proposed electric rate increase that would impact more than 600,000 customers in Iowa.

It is expected that MidAmerican Energy will file the proposed increase next week and the Iowa Utilities Board expects to make a final decision by late December.

The meeting schedule is as follows:

February 23 - Utilities Board Building, Hearing Room, 1375 E. Court Avenue, Des Moines
February 28 - Modern Woodmen Park, Suites 10 & 11, 209 S. Gaines Street, Davenport
March 1 - Petersen Town Hall, Waterloo Center for the Arts, 225 Commercial Street, Waterloo
March 6 - Briar Cliff University, 3303 Rebecca Street, Stark Student Center, Clare Room, Sioux City
March 8 - Johnson County Fairgrounds, 4261 Oak Crest Hill Road SE, Montgomery Hall, Iowa City
March 13 - Council Bluffs Public Library, Rooms A & B, 400 Willow Avenue, Council Bluffs

All meetings start at 5:30 p.m.

All comments provided at these public meetings will become part of the permanent record in this case. Once the proposed rate increase is filed, the Iowa Utilities Board will also accept written public comments.

At the meetings, customers will be able to give comments and ask questions of representatives for the Iowa Utilities Board, MidAmerican Energy Company and the Office of Consumer Advocate.
