Two hurt in Black Hawk County accident


Two women were injured in an accident in rural Black Hawk County on Monday afternoon.

Deputies were called to a two-car accident at the West Cedar Wapsi and Wagner Roads at 2:47 p.m. Monday.  On scene, they found one car in the ditch and the other on the shoulder of the road.

Deputies say Merrilee Fatland, 38, of Ionia, was southbound on Wagner Road and failed to stop for the stop sign at W. Cedar Wapsi Road.  Fatland's car was hit by a car driven by Rebecca Thomas, 21, of Denver, who was eastbound on W. Cedar Wapsi.

Fatland had to be extricated from her vehicle and both women were taken to Allen Hospital for treatment.

Fatland was ticketed for failure to obey a stop sign.

W. Cedar Wapsi was shut down at Burton and Streeter, Wagner Road was shut down at the intersection with W.Cedar Wapsi for a short time.
