Cedar Rapids considers options for historic building

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Fire Station No. 2 was damaged in the 2008 floods and a city project to reconstruct the storm sewers has brought attention to this building.

Both public and private offers were considered Monday night during a meeting. The proposed options ranged from a fire fighters museum to a community center.

"It still has debris in it from the flood. It hasn't been cleared out properly yet, but the structure itself is in pretty good condition still," Dave Wallace, project engineer, said.

There are no plans to tear the building down.

Fire Station No. 2 was one of the first fire stations and the first brick fire station in Cedar Rapids.
