Iowa City denies new permit to Occupy protestors

City leaders have denied an application by Occupy Iowa City protesters to remain in a city park.

Protestors have been in College Green Park since October. The group's current assembly permit expires on Feb. 29. In a letter to the group, City Manager Thomas Markus says a plan to repair turf at the park means protesters must remove all personal property no later than 12:00 a.m. on March 1.

"The City stands willing to assist your group in finding a more suitable location for your meetings,"  Markus said in the letter.

The group's application lists no mailing address for the organization. City officials said the letter was sent to a P.O. Box on file as well as several email addresses associated with the occupy group.
