Six people forced from Cedar Rapids home after fire

A family of 5 and their live-in friend have been forced out of their home after a fire at their Cedar Rapids home Saturday morning.  Fire crews say a 6-year-old boy and a 7-year-old boy first noticed the fire, ran out of the house with one of their dogs, and went to a neighbor's house to call the fire department.  The neighbor then went back to the home and banged on the basement door to alert the man living there of the fire.  He was able to get to safety.  Fire crews then arrived and began to extinguish the blaze and bring the family's other dog to safety.  Fire officials say the fire appeared to have started in the kitchen where they say one of the boys had turned on the stove. They say the stove was unintentionally left on and ignited nearby material.  The boy's mother disputes that account.  The Red Cross is helping the family and their friend with a place to stay.
