Des Moines church sign draws protest

A pastor in Iowa had some trouble after putting up a sign reading "Gay is not okay."

"Came up with the title for my sermon which is 'Gay is not Okay,' and in my naïve thinking I thought well, you know I'll put that on the sign out front that might spark some interest, " pastor Michael Demastus said.

Since the sign went up, Demastus says he's received at least 1,000 email and Facebook messages, most are angry.

"It does not say 'gays' are not ok, it says 'gay' is not ok." Demastus said. "I'm talking about the sin, I'm not talking about the person - there's a difference in being able to love a person and hate the sin."

Many disagree that they are misinterpreting anything.

The sign now says "Adultery is not okay."

A group has said it will protest outside the church on Sunday, which Pastor Demastus welcomes.

The pastor says police will be there, to make sure demonstrators don't disrupt services.
