An eastern Iowa student is responsible for winning $14,500 in educational tools for Seton Catholic School in Peosta, where she attends fourth grade.

Grace Kramer, entered a math book cover art contest through textbook company McGraw-Hill.

2,400 kindergarten through fifth grade students nationwide submitted artwork, and Grace's piece was one of only six chosen. A process of both public online voting and a panel of judges helped select the winners.

A ceremony Friday at the school honored Grace for her success. As part of Grace's prize, McGraw-Hill donated $14,500 in educational supplies and resources to Seton Catholic School. The school building is new; it opened in 2012.

Grace's drawing will be featured on one of the new books in the McGraw-Hill "My Math" program series.

"I thought I was never going to win because there was so many people, and then I was, like, so happy when I found out that I won, because it was, like, all sudden," Grace said.

There were 72 national finalists in the contest. They included Grace and also a student from Dubuque and East Dubuque, Ill.
