Woman found safe after spending the night in the cold

The Iowa County, Wisconsin Sheriff's Office says a 74-year old woman was found safe Thursday morning after wandering off on Wednesday.

The family of Ginny Brand, of rural Dodgeville, called deputies just before 5:00 p.m. Wednesday saying that Brand was last seen in Dodgeville at the intersection of Wilson and Esch Roads.  The family told deputies that Brand has Dementia and wandered off on her own.

Iowa County deputies and K-9, along with the Dodgeville Fire Department, Dodgeville EMS and Lafayette County K-9, searched the area and did not find her.

Wisconsin State Patrol aircraft, People and Paws K-9 and Iowa County Emergency Management were then called in, and the search continued into the night.

On Thursday morning, fire departments from Mineral Point, Highland, Cobb and Barneveld, along with the Mineral Point Rescue Squad, the Southwest Wisconsin Mounted Search and Rescue Patrol, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Warden and Aircraft and the Iowa County Highway Department, were called in to broaden the search area.

Early Thursday morning, searchers on foot found tracks in the snow that led them to Ginny.  She was in good condition and taken to Upland Hills Health for treatment.

Deputies say Brand spent the whole night without any shelter in temperatures that dipped as low as 5 degrees.
