MARION (KWWL) -

A lamb in eastern Iowa gave birth to quintuplet lambs on Saturday.

Michigan State University sheep expert Alan Culham has placed the odds of a Suffolk-mix breed having quintuplets at about one in 10,000 or higher.

Farmer Bret Blackford says the ewe was two and a half weeks late when she went into labor.

"I was really surprised usually she has two or three big twins ever since I had her and five was just unbelievable," Blackford said.

Only three of the lambs survived, but the mother is in good health
