UPDATE: Fire crews continue to monitor grocery store fire

Posted: Updated:
MARSHALLTOWN (KWWL) -

Firefighters continued to battle a fire at a Marshalltown grocery store on Wednesday after working through the night and calling in help from the next county.

The fire broke out around 11 p.m. on Tuesday at a Hispanic grocery store at 135 East Main Street. The fire was large enough that firefighters were called in from Toledo in Tama County about two hours later.

There was a family living in the building but they were able to get out safely.

Some crews left the scene around 8 a.m. on Wednesday, but others stayed throughout the day to monitor the three-story building.

There is some concern that the building could collapse.

The cause is still under investigation.
