Valley Community School voters approve new levy

ELGIN (KWWL) -

Voters in the Valley Community School District in Elgin Tuesday approved a renewal of the district's Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL).

The current levy expires in 2013. Residents voted to renew levy by just twenty-five votes, 148-123.

Valley Community voters first approved a PPEL in 2002, and it generates about $47,000 in revenue every year. That money is used only for the physical plant and equipment needs of the Valley Community School District.

The renewed, $1.00 per $1,000 of assessed valuation will begin in the fall of 2013.

Voter turnout for the Special Election was 16.7 percent. 271 of the 1,626 eligible voters turned out to cast a ballot.
