Branstad vows fight to keep guard unit alive

DES MOINES (KWWL) -

Governor Branstad is voicing his concerns about a proposal to decommission an Iowa Air National Guard unit, based at the Des Moines International Airport.

The U.S. Department of Defense wants to shut down the 132nd Fighter Wing, which employs one-thousand people.

The Governor says he's working with Iowa's Congressional delegation, along with other Governors, to try to keep the positions in Des Moines.

Governor Branstad calls the idea to close the unit a big mistake.
