"They love coming in and smelling it. That's a lot of the comments we hear. Oh it smells so good!" Linda Hamer said.
What smells so good? The coffee, of course.
Ted and Linda Hamer took over the coffee ministry at Orchard Hill Church in Cedar Falls about three years ago.
"I think a lot of people look forward to Sunday mornings and their coffee," Ted Hamer said.
The couple arrives early to get everything brewing.
"Typical Sunday morning we get here about 7:30 and start brewing. We're usually her until about 11:30," Ted Hamer said.
The Coffee House itself started about ten years ago, thanks to parishioner Alan Karkosh who heard an interesting stat at a church conference.
"If you put a good cup of coffee in people's hands, they'll stick around 15 minutes longer," Ted Hamer said.
Each week, Ted and Linda make sure anyone who wants a cup of coffee, has one.
"Get to the point you know a lot of people's favorite coffee. Sometimes I have it ready for them," he said.
Ted and Linda said they put out standard flavors each week and at least eight flavored coffees.
"They count on it, and that's fine. We love that," Linda Hamer said.
The Coffee House also serves cappuccinos, hot chocolate and hot and iced teas. There's no charge for the drinks, but donations are accepted. The Coffee House is funded solely through the donations.
Ted and Linda said they're happy to be part of the coffee ministry at Orchard Hill Church, but they can't do it alone. About 15 to 20 volunteers also help out each Sunday.
"I love being here every Sunday. Yes, I go home exhausted, but by next Sunday morning I am so pumped to be back and ready to be here," Linda Hamer said.
There are two Coffee House locations in Orchard Hill Church. On one Sunday, just one location went through 31 gallons of coffee.
