Man leads authorities on dangerous chase in Hardin County

One man is behind bars after leading a Hardin County Sheriff's Deputy on a dangerous chase.  

Around 7:15 p.m., Saturday an officer attempted to stop a speeding vehicle driving on Highway 20. In a report, authorities say Leonardo Garduno of Des Moines was driving 20 miles over the speed limit.  

Garduno refused to pull over, and lead authorities on a chase for about 30 minutes.  The chase ended in Grundy County when Garduno drove into a ditch on D-35 and C Avenue.  Officers were able to take Garduno into custody.

During the chase, a patrol car collided with a pickup truck driven by Gary Rolph of Steamboat Rock. the driver of the patrol car, Deputy Cowles was taken to a hospital in Iowa Falls.  Gary Rolph and his passenger, Roxane Rolph were not injured.  

Both cars are considered a total loss.  The accident is still under investigation.
