Cedar Rapids spends thousands of dollars to demolish dilapidated buildings

 The City of Cedar Rapids is spending thousands of dollars to demolish and clean up more than two dozen dilapidated buildings.

The remediation and demolition was approved for 11 residential properties, ten accessory structures, and two commercial garages. These properties are considered a public nuisance due to safety and sanitary issues.

D.W. Zinser of Walford, Iowa was awarded a $129,997.00 contract.

The work is expected to be finished by the end of April.

The city said these demolitions will be funded by the Building Services Division of the City of Cedar Rapids, Nuisance Abatement budget, and will be assessed back to the property owners.
