A Belle Plaine man was injured while hunting raccoons just northwest of town in Tama County on Tuesday.

According to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, 41-year-old Christopher M. Pippert was hunting in an abandoned farm house with two other men. A shot from a .22 caliber pistol from one of the other hunters' guns hit Pippert in the left ankle.

Pippert was taken to St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids where he was treated for a non-life threatening injury.

Tuesday was the final day of the raccoon hunting season in Iowa.
