Three injured in accident near Palo

Three people were injured Thursday morning in an accident near Palo after sheriff's deputies say a driver failed to stop for a stop sign.

The Linn County Sheriff's Office was called to the intersection of Ellis Road and Covington Road just after 7:30 a.m. for a report of a two-vehicle accident.

Deputies say that Fred Tobin, 26, of Cedar Rapids, was headed west on Ellis Road and failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Covington Road and hit a truck driven by Jerry Meyers, 48, of Palo.

Meyers' truck left the road and flipped over in the ditch.

Tobin, Meyers and Eric Meyers, a passenger in the truck, were all taken to St. Luke's Hospital to be treated.  Deputies say all three were wearing their seatbelts.

Tobin was ticketed for failure to stop at a stop sign and driving while license under suspension.

The accident remains under investigation.
