Waterloo girl says "Phooey to Phil"; declares "Hedgehog Day"

Punxsutawney Phil may have some competition. Mickey Fishback and her hedgehog, Waterloo Chai, are getting into the predicting business.

Going with the animal theme, Mickey is declaring February 2nd Hedgehog Day. Thursday morning, Mickey and Waterloo Chai, dressed in a stovepipe hat, went outside to predict whether winter will stick around or if it will be an early spring.

Waterloo Chai did not see his shadow, meaning an early spring. That contradicts Punxsutawney Phil's prediction of six more weeks of winter.

Mickey is a 12-year old student at Price Lab Schools in Cedar Falls. Her mother, Carole, says that Waterloo Chai, an African Pygmy hedgehog, is just one of the animals they have rescued.
