UNI head football coach Mark Farley says his 2012 recruiting class is a solid group and will fortify the preceding recruiting classes.  Of the 22 players signed on Wednesday, 20 are high school players and two are junior college transfers.  Ten of the high school players are from Iowa and there are 13 offensive and 9 defensive players. Northern Iowa finished the 2011 season ranked number six after making to the quarterfinal round of the FCS Playoffs.
