Pfizer recalls birth control pills

A recall on birth control pills may mean thousands of women are at risk of an unintended pregnancy.

Pfizer says a packaging error mixed up the order of the active and inactive pills in their 28-day blister packs. Some packages also have too may pills with the active ingredients, and others have too few.

14 lots of the Lo-Ovral tablets and 14 lots of Norgestrel and Ethinyl Estradiol generic tablets are involved in the recall. The recalled products included NDC numbers 24090-801-84 and  24090-961-84. A complete list of the involved lots can be found on Pfizer's website

There are no health risks other than unintended pregnancy from using the recalled pills. Customers who have taken pills from these lots should begin using a non-hormonal form of contraception immediately.
