PEOSTA (KWWL) -

After more than seven months of construction, a new school building is open for more than 200 students in Dubuque County.

Several hundred people gathered Sunday afternoon in the gym of the new Seton Catholic School in Peosta.

It was a blessing and dedication ceremony for the new building.

The school serves about 250 preschool through fifth grade students from the families of five parishes, from Epworth, Peosta, Farley, Bankston and Placid.

The building combines students from two schools. Principal Mary Smock said the old buildings served the Seton Catholic School System well, but they had finished their course.

"I think the best part of this entire experience has been watching these communities come together," Smock said. "It's been very, very humbling. You know, everybody just pitches in, does what needs to be done. People show up to clean, people show up to move in."

The building was ready in time to welcome students after winter break. Smock said construction was completed right on schedule.
