Waterloo MDA Walk raises thousands for research

Hundreds of walkers spent their Saturday morning at the mall in Waterloo raising money and awareness for muscular dystrophy.  The Cedar Valley Muscular Dystrophy Association held its annual walk indoors at Crossroads Center.

300 people strolled, wheeled and walked around the mall to raise money for research.

Many came in teams to support someone they know who lives with MD.

Muscular dystrophy is a disease that causes reduced ability to move, defects in skeletal muscles and the death of muscle tissues.

"Muscular Dystrophy affects children AND adults, so it can be from little babies to older people. But you know, it only takes one muscle to make a difference, and that's your heart," said MDA State Ambassador Halie Frahm.

Saturday's walk generated about $20,000 with all of the money going towards research.
